The invading Martian armies were ready. Their leaders thought they would win without trying. That is until their advance robotic scouts met Mom.

Martian Invaders Meet Mom eBook Rebecca Lickiss Alan Lickiss

Obviously from the cover this is a self published short story. I always like to read stories by amateur writers as you find some really great undiscovered talent. This is not one of those times, it wasn't a poorly written short story it just wasn't anything great either. The first part goes for too long, I imagine a lot of readers would have stopped reading before the better part of the story starts (when the robots meet the human kids on the way to school). Starts of using alien specific technical jargon a lot, although they are made up words you sort of have the feeling you do when someone uses insider technical jargon including acronyms for their workplace when trying to justify their actions and you are on the phone to them or something. Bizarrely in a scenario where the aliens don't know much about humans, (hence why they need to send two information gathering robots to Earth) they have just had a war with Saturn where they battled the Uranians, so somehow they call the planets the same thing we do. Then we have a pretty boring getting ready for school scene. Even though this is a short story, the boring introduction scenes needed to be much shorter. Possibly a few more scenes involving the confused robots at school before meeting "Mom" would have been good too. I also didn't buy that the kids would let the robots do what they do, surely they'd know that's wrong and they'd get in trouble for that.

The whole thing isn't that long, it will take you maybe twelve to fifteen minutes at most to read. Once you push through the boring first half it is somewhat interesting, but overall is nothing brilliant.

Martian Invaders Meet Mom eBook Rebecca Lickiss Alan Lickiss Reviews

The author doesn't pretend this is a great work of art,but a cute quick read that would be a good read for your kids our you at lunch.
Cute story and an interesting perspective. Enjoyable, but not a lot of depth. A good quick read while waiting for an appointment.
This is a hilarious short read! This isn't a 'Mom smashes aliens and saves the day' read. Well, she does save the day, just unintentionally. And the kids helped. Again, unintentionally. If you want or need a laugh, this is your book!
OK for reading to young kids.
I really liked this story, as it was written from an interesting point of view, with a very satisfying outcome thanks to "mom" - who saved the day without even knowing it needed saving, just by doing the regular things a mom does to keep her kids on the straight and narrow ... I even read it twice!
Alan and Rebecca did an awesome job clashing cultures and producing a hilarious Sci-fi story. You will not regret the short amount of time spent reading this book.

The shortest synopsis I can think of A pair of Martian robots, disguised as eight year old boys and sent to gather intelligence for an impending Martian invasion, spend a day going to school and playing with four young boys. Boys being boys, at the end of the day, they push Mom to her limits and she dooms the Martian invasion plan in the most gloriously innocent way.

P.S. Don't drink anything while reading this eBook! RUMBLE FART!
Short Version Fun, cute .... and don't mess with Mom.

Long Version An amateurish parody but still cute. The story lives up to its title. The first few paragraphs are slow with a typical setup I often write myself, then go back and rewrite to change from "defining" the situation to "being" the situation. Had the authors done so this would have gone from a passable short story to truly good.
